Cyber criminals don’t focus all their efforts exclusively on citizens of the United States. These crooks believe in equal opportunity – to separate citizens of the world from every ounce of currency possible. Global law enforcement efforts to crack down on illegal operations that steal from citizens take many forms, including a recent awareness campaign by the Metropolitan Police (Met) in London, England.
The Met’s Operation Falcon released a series of five videos designed to outline common methods criminals use to obtain sensitive information from the public. These videos provide tips on how to avoid specific elements of behavior that give criminals the tools needed to steal bank account information, personal data, and access to every file on a person’s computer. Videos include information on:
- Weak passwords
- Computer security updates
- Public Wi-Fi
- Identity theft
- Phishing
According to a June 26, 2017 post on http://news.met.police,uk, Detective Superintendent Neil Ballard believes the videos will give the public the tools they need to avoid cyber intrusions.
“It takes just a couple of minutes to view each clip and having viewed all five you will be better equipped to protect yourself from cyber criminals and fraudsters trying to steal your identity and your money,” Ballard said in the post.
